What to expect
We understand that the decision to ask for help can be very daunting; we therefore welcome parents contacting us in the first instance for a free telephone consultation where we can get a better idea of your concerns and we can think together about how we might be able to help.
The first step is likely to be an initial assessment which will involve meeting together to get some background information and to understand further what you would like to get out of our work together. This meeting can be with parents alone or you can bring your child depending on what we agree would be most helpful. As part of an initial assessment it can be helpful for me to carry out an observation of your child either at home, nursery or in school. At the end of our first meeting I will be able to provide some feedback and thoughts about your concerns and we can agree a plan of work together. This could involve further assessment if necessary and/or a course of therapy which can be individual sessions for the child, work with the parent(s) or family work depending on the need.
